When the Receptionist is Not Responding
Front office Fanatics
The Elevator stopped on 4 Floors on my way to our CL Synergy Limited offices on the 6th Floor…the doors opened, revealing the receptionists (all who happened to be Female in this case), sitting at their respective office entrances.
It was Sad to see that these Ladies, who are supposed to be the First impression of the offices, looking distracted and indifferent as to who was walking in to their offices. Some not even looking up from their phones to smile or greet the person who walked out of the Elevator. Perhaps this was because it was ‘just one of the staff’ and not a visitor (which is more disturbing, in my opinion).
I have walked into many office during the last 20 years, for interviews, for meetings, for presentations and for damage-control. The impact of a pleasant greeting at the reception remains to be one of the most ‘underrated’ experiences at almost all of them. One reception-experience that stands out for me is the one at Capital Maharaja Group Head Offices (around 2016), where Two of the most lovey ladies greeted and directed you with the utmost attention, efficiency and courtesy…all the time with energy and and a Big smile. This is an example that I bring up whenever this topic is discussed.
I believe that companies need to pay more attention about who they hire to sit at the front office, not just for the sake of making a Good First impression for visitors, but for their staff. A kind word, a smile and and a pleasant greeting can do a lot for someone coming into office. Above all, its a the most basic form of Kindness :-)
